All participants must keep their hair, and appearance in correct style and cut to have passed inspection of actual unit, as dictated by regulations. Authenticity rules will be enforced; no non-period haircuts or facial hair. We are all representing the ordinary and common soldier. If you simply must represent the reincarnation of Field Marshal Rommel or wish to represent some edge case oddball impression – this is not the event for you.

For the sake of numbers in the ranks, we request all specialized impressions (MP, Commando, etc) please plan on being a basic soldier for this event (unless we’ve already agreed in writing). If you have a special impression you’d like to do, please send a request to Management@MarchOnRome.org.

Italian Resistance and partisans will be organized under a resistance commander and require prior approval of MoR Management. All partisans will submit a impression photograph to Management@MarchOnRome.org prior to approval. Deadline for approval is July 13.

Here’s a link to a very interesting article on some of the history of the German Internment Camp at Fort Stanton…

“Fort Stanton, seven miles northeast of Capitan, had a colorful
history before it became home to the German detainees.
Named after Captain Henry W. Stanton, who was killed in a
skirmish with Apache Indians in 1855, Fort Stanton was at
the heart of the US Army’s campaigns against Apaches and
Navajos. Abandoned in 1861, it was reoccupied in 1863 and
turned eventually into a resident military post housing the
famous Buffalo Soldiers in the late 1870s. During the waning
years of the nineteenth century, Fort Stanton soldiers saw their
share of conflicts in the Indian wars and the Lincoln County
War. Until 1896, when it was vacated, at one time or another it
had hosted famous and infamous people like Billy the Kid, Kit
Carson, and John “Black Jack” Pershing…”

First thank you for coming out to MoR II we appreciate your continued support and look forward to a bigger and better MoR III …and thank you for taking time to answer the survey questions. Any feedback we get helps to improve the event for the next time.

So before you review the attached survey results, here are a couple of things we knew going in and then some things that we’ll change and work on for next year.

First you can’t please everyone, so we are doing our best to achieve a happy median so while not everyone gets their way most folks will have a good time. So while you look over the results realize that some folks have axes to grind in their responses.

Some of the things we did were done for strong reasons and for the future of our event and the relationship with the Fort, the BLM, the State of NM and the community. The show battle is for supporting our relationship with all the entities involved with MoR. The photographers were for BLM doing event compliance monitoring (our permit)
and the local press.

The positive from this will be that we will be allowed expanded use of the Fort and its facilities for future MoR events. We are working on having barracks, bathrooms and showers available.

This year was the first year we had a vendor in attendance. Hopefully we can expand this for reputable vendors with products that are of interest to reenactors. We will also work to expand the black market.

Some Gripes

Vehicles; due to the BLM rules and antiquities and Indian sites in the ares vehicles are restricted to the roads. We are exploring a site where the subsurface is hard rock and we sill be able to take vehicles off road. However vehicles and their transport is very expensive and the recession has impacted everyone. We are trying to make MoR III more vehicle friendly. However MoR will remain a very physical event.

Authenticity and Impressions; we’ve tried to make clear the rules and to enforce them, unfortunately this remains a trouble spot. Below we will outline some of the changes that will be in effect for MoR III.

Attendance Numbers; We try to advertise MoR as widely as possible, but in the end it really depends upon word of mouth, reputation and to a large degree the economy. The more folks that come out the better the event will be. We can always use more Allies!

Some Changes for MOR III

Authenticity; Rules will be enforced; no non-period haircuts or facial hair. We are representing the ordinary and common soldier. If you simply must represent the reincarnation of Field Marshal Rommel or wish to represent some edge case oddball impression – this is not the event for you. For MoR III we will require a photograph in impression for new registrants, approval will be based upon that photograph. (Existing units with strong authenticity requirements, CHG, KGvR, 36th Baker, 984th Grenadier Rgt… do not need photos.)

Impressions; All specialized impressions (Feldgendarmes, MPs, Pioniere, Panzerjaegers, etc) will require approval prior to the event. For MoR III partisan impressions will be approved but highly limited and fall under the command of Mr. S. Bacca. The SS impression is limited to the CHG.

Schedule Changes:

We will continue to hold the assembly / briefing at 0800 but we will move out a 0900.

If we hold an armor battle it will be Friday so oversize load vehicles will not be stuck at Ft Stanton by the Sunday DOT transport ban.

We will hold the BBQ on Friday so folks leaving early Sunday won’t miss it.

We will hold the Smokey Bear Cafe meal on Saturday night.

A battlefield nurse welcomes wounded soldiers at the German Army Headquarters located in historic Ft. Stanton. German and US Army re-enactment groups will be re-creating historic battles from WWll all day Saturday. The event is free and open to the public.
Visitors entering historic Ft. Stanton this weekend can expect WWll re-created military checkpoints as German and US military history re-enactment groups take to the battlefield, complete with jeeps, tanks and military armaments.

The old museum building is the site of the German Army headquarters where visitors can sign in and receive a guided tour of an authentic, fortified WWll German Army radio communications bunker. Both armies are encamped along the main entrance road.

Further down the road is a US Army roadblock where visitors may be required to prove they are not enemy spies. Saturday morning, July 29th at 0800 hours, US and German troops will muster near the Ft. Stanton Parade Grounds and develop their battle plans. The historic battle re-enactments will occur near the Rio Bonito from 1000 hours until 1600 hours (4pm). The event is open to the public
